Krupp Park - Park der fünf Hügel

The park’s site was inaccessible to the public for almost 200 years. The old factory buildings made it impossible to connect the Essen districts of Mitte and Altendorf.
When the industrial infrastructure was shifted, the development concept “Krupp Gürtel“ (a green belt) allowed to build Krupp Park, which is to become a multifunctional park for all groups of users and the population at large.
The future Krupp Park total area is more than 220,000m². The northern part of the park was created first and opened in August 2009. This part is 125,000m² in size.
The newly modelled hills were made of the earth left over from the construction of “Berthold-Beitz-Boulevard“. The most important design element are the five designer hills. The highest, 12m, has an observation platform, a real attraction, from which you can see the newly flooded 9,100m² rainwater lake.
