Glockenturm des Theodor-Fliedner-Dorfes

Built on the highest point of Theodor-Fliedner-Dorf, the belfry is visible from afar.
The decision not to have the tower built with the newly built church but on the edge of the existing village is in line with this village’s integrative concept. The belfry is not only to accompany the busy life of the community, but also to be an urbanistic counterpoint from which important temporal events can be interpreted and announced.
The tower is a 25m timber-framed building. It was important to meet the acoustic requirements. The architectural solution to clad the open support structure with its stairwell and the closed belfry in a textile facade is noteworthy.
This gives the tower its picturesque effect: The surface changes in accordance with the light conditions and provides a vivid interplay of reflection, shadows and transparency. During the day, the architecture changes from a solid obelisk to an open timber-framed structure, while at night the lights inside turn the tower into an artful light object.
