When building the new HQ of Stadtwerke Düsseldorf parts of the former power station Flingern were integrated into the modern architecture.
Four parallel office blocks complement the historical turbine building and its annexes. The combination of old and new was achieved by a glass joint. The new office complex is characterised by three lavish glass halls between the individual structures and which feed daylight into the offices. The individual structures are linked inside the atriums by steel bridges.
The quadrangles contain trees and partly remains of the technical features of the old power station. These attest to the history of the site and breathe life into the modern estate. The halls, which have been designed as winter gardens, are high-quality rest areas and have their own AC system.
Through the interplay of modern and old fabric the rather guarded design of the outer façade shows the old industrial architecture to its fullest advantage.
