The new building of the Architektenkammer NRW finished at the end of 2002 is situated at a prominent place of the entrance to Düsseldorf’s ‘Medienhafen’.
This project combines the Chamber’s spatial requirements with the public standard of an information and communication centre.
The seven-storey building grows out of a bold ground plan of a triangle with bent sides. The compact solitaire building radiates dynamics and, in its shape, draws upon the curved façades of the adjacent buildings without relinquishing its solitary features.
The entrance area faces the street line frontally and defines an entrance situation to both Zollhof and Kaistraße and thus to the ‘Medienhafen’.
The façade is made of glass in its entirety; this glass façade also covering massive parts like parapets and buttressing wall sheets. Its reduced design again underlines the shape of the building.
The central element in the interior is an atrium which links the storeys in both functional and visual terms.
The lobby covers two floors and is used for exhibitions, lectures, receptions and debates. There is also a leased out public restaurant integrated here.
The first floor provides space for seminars and events of almost any kind and size. The floors above accommodate the various offices, the boardroom and conference rooms of the chamber of architects.
