Gewerbe- und Wohnpark Zeche Holland

The 22ha area was zoned into clearly defined areas and worked upon in four architectural competitions. The new residential and commercial areas are buffered by a service centre in the middle.
The industrial estate on the former Zeche Holland pit focuses upon the ecologically orientated textiles and clothing industry plus IT and communication technology.
The pit’s still extant buildings have now been restored and converted. The historical wages shed, for example, is now an event hall. The old tracks were also integrated into the concept and now serve as free spaces.
The Wohn- und Gewerbepark is linked with the regional green belt C of Emscher Landschaftpark through an extensive rainwater concept. Green arteries run through the commercial buildings, meeting near a central pond.
The IBA (construction exhibition) project is one of the few that combines working, living and a park.
