Gründerzentrum -Tripple Z-

Today’s ”Triple Z“ once was Zeche Zollverein mining shaft 4/11’s machine shed. The structure was first converted even when the pit was still in operation. It was, to a large extent, gutted of machinery and converted into a materials testing facility.
The on the outside still rather unmodified building was then converted, again, into a start-up centre by the architect Heinrich Böll.
Preserving the original interior, two two-storey office structures were built in. The remaining space of the shed serves as its foyer from which the office units are accessed via galleries.
The odd test bench and installations still attest to the building’s former use. An artistic wall design by Inge Böll completed the conversion.
