| Description: | The building of the "Zollverein School of Management and Design" at the northern access route to Zeche Zollverein consists of a 34 m tall and light cube of exposed concrete. The free and irregular arrangement of window openings of various sizes breaks up the cube’s integrity and removes the mass from the structure, as it were. You can’t see from the outside how flexibly the building is divided within. Above the ground floor with a foyer, a cafeteria and a lecture hall there are other floors with offices and seminar rooms, studios and workshops. All in all, the interior is characterised by a lavish atmosphere. The “active heat insulation” of the homogenous one-layer façade made of reinforced concrete is certainly of note. Previously unused pit water circulates through the 30cm thick exposed concrete through hoses. More about Industrie- und Kulturstandort Zollverein |
